Video of the Day'Can't Trust Your Honesty' by Slapbak, Donavon Frankenreiter, Matt Grundy

Today, funk is one of the most undiscussed music genres on the planet. This might be related to the limited supply of  music that could be “categorized” as funk. It is almost as if something seismic occurred when Red Hot Chili Peppers lost their guitarist and broke away from their funk beginnings after ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’.  But despite funk’s ironically subdued status in the 21st century, we believe that like its sister genres jazz and blues, funk music will never die.

We are stoked to be showcasing fresh new bonafide funk music from Slapbak. The authentic funk grooves of Slapbak date back to 1992 when Jara Harris founded the band. We first enjoyed their video ‘Bad Lovin’  as a late summer groove on the Funk Pop playlist on GOGOPIX.TV. When ‘Can’t Trust Your Honesty’ arrived from Symphonic Distribution we smashed  into it to see if the funky ride was still on. Not only is the Slapbak funk express rolling, the new music video features legendary surf, soul, folk, funk, vibe on a dime musician Donavon Frankenreiter and his exceptionally talented homeboy Matt Grundy on the harmonica.  The video is an dope look at Slapbak’s funky performance style and also let’s us in on the good vibes of hanging with Donavon Frankenreiter on a music video set.
